how does body language shift between business and interpersonal communication?
Public Comments
- in business we have a presumption that we need to put forth a certain professionalism. Each of us have somewhat of a common definition of that. however in our interpersonal communications we want to "let her hair down" and be ourselves. In general we all want to be able to express ourselves without fear. In the professional world we have a fear that whatever our profession is will not be successful unless we put forth a proper image. A good source to look at with this is Irving Goffman's concept of "impression management".
- business body language is confident, tall, hopefully proud and indicates knowledge. interpersonal is more relaxed. one can slouch and give a lax air without repercussion.
