- I had my honeymoon in Thailand... Heres what i observed... Greeting: Smiles Smiles Smiles - Its the land of smiles... Usually they will greet you with their hands palms placed together under their chin, dip their head slightly and say "Sa Wut Dee (pronounced Sa Woo Day). They sometimes add "Kap" at the end too. It says in guide books that they dont look favourably on public displays of affection but they are so used to tourists now that they dont tend to pass and heed to it. They dont like to show anger in public, or other people to do it either. The image of the buddah is sacred in all forms so dont mess with that at all. Have respect around temples and sacred places, take shoes off when requested etc... Fantastic place to visit, highly recommended! I hope that is helpful for you... Try the link below also...
- - common forms of greeting: wai, both hands, palms together. Person of lower age/status wais first. - non-verbal communications(body language): smile when happy, unhappy, annoyed, flirting, rejecting, etc. You have to be born Thai to understand the differences. - concepts of personal space: in big cities, close is tolerated and ignored. People live in their private space and ignore anything/anyone around that does not directly concern them. - concepts of time: Time is not important to most people. Is very frustrating to most Westerners - manners: eat with spoon and chopsticks. Don't dip a utensil with food on it into a common dish. - etiquette: respect elders and people of higher status. - business customs: buyer beware. It's just a game. Never lose face.
