  1. I think it has its place. Whose cultural values are you speaking of? I do not ever want to lose the spoken word or the ability to carry on a verbal communication with others. Our society is already becoming isolated to some degree. In my opinion this is not a good thing.
  2. Non-verbal communication cannot be as precise as verbal communication and is subject to cutural differences. For example teachers must understand that some child look down when they are spoken to and other look at the speaker. In either case this is can be opposite of what the teacher's culture does. Many speakers are not aware of their body language, and there are courses that teach managers to manipulate others by reflecting their body language. An example of mis-interpretation, occurred to me when, I was criticezed for crossoing my arms in a role playing activity. It was supposed to show I was not attentive and somewhat hostile. But being a big person, there was no comforable place to rest my arms, so I just folded them. So tehy got the wrong message and I was unaware I was sending it.
