does non verbal communication aid or hinder verbal communication?

2. Aid, non verbal is integral in 'face to face' human communication.
3. Hinder, since if you're using nonverbal you aren't talking. Unless you're making ugly faces while talking. In that case it might aid, especially in reading the emotions of people (and not making them more pissed off than they already are), but may hinder if they're read wrongly.
4. Depends what the non verbal is saying. It is is emanating contempt, for example, the other person will turn off to the verbal message. If it is attractive and inviting, then it tends to cause the other person to tune in and warm up, be more receptive.
