- For instance, by not having eye contact, that can give the message that one party is not interested in the conversation. Also another would be the crossed arm, again a non verbal clue that the person is not open to recieve the message being given.
- Non-verbal communication can negate or enhance a verbal message. If a person has a tendency to look off into the distance and put their hands in their pockets when they are lying, it can completely negate what they are saying. If a person looks someone else in the eye as they speak while saying congratulations and pats you on the back you are much more likely to feel more congratulated than if someone says congratulations while looking off into the distance and quickly hurries off. I hope I helped....
- Body language can change the verbal communication greatly, since we are expected to react physically as well. Usually when you talk, you look at the person and respond appropriately, though it varies from person to person. Your reactions are still expected to correspond (both physically and orally). Now, if you changed it up a bit, such as not looking at the person when you say they look fine, it conveys insincerity and triviality from you to them. If you're smiling, it softens the impact of a "You're an idiot" from an insult to a joke. It really just depends on the personality of the one at hand, however; for someone normally aloof and/or passive, any response would be considered a change, with words or not.
