Learn Body Language

Chinese social etiquette?

1. If someone asks, "have you eaten?" in China how should you reply? 2.How would you get your chinese guests to start eating? 3.If you are thinking of giving a gift to a colleague what should you think about first? 4.What topics of conversation should you not ask straight away? 5.If you visit a workplace and everyone claps at you- what should you do? 6.What body language should you avoid? 8.What is often given by Chinese people to each other at new year? just a few things that would help with my international business course, thanks.

  2. 1. In Chinese, "have you eaten" is usually a way of welcoming someone...when you want to make them feel welcome, you offer food. I suggest you take some food...not alot if you are not hungry, but take a little 2. Tell them to start eating. I would start eating yourself if they will not start...that or often, if they're traditional...they'll wait until someone that's older and such will start to eat prior to eating 3. Do not give something that is black. Black=death 4. not sure about this one 5. just smile and nod thank you and make sure to pay a compliment back 6. not sure about that one 8. red envelopes but ONLY if you're married and you don't give it to someone that's already married...say happy new year...you can bring treats if you want i wouldn't do something that you wouldn't know to do already. Don't go to a place empty handed...like if you're going to someone's house...bring a dish or a plant or something... also - you're in the tattoo category.
  3. I speak English and I do not always speak it properly I sure could not tell you about Chinese.
