- Yes, they are called "kinesiologists" and they specialize in interpreting non-verbal communications, or "body language." Wikipedia: "Kinesiology is the science of human movement. It focuses on how the body functions and moves. A kinesiological approach applies the latest evidenced based medicine principles to preserve and enhance human movement in all settings and populations. Kinesiologists work in the fitness industry, clinically, and in industrial environments. Kinesiologists are professionals who have obtained a university degree from a recognized University. Kinesiologists assess human movement, performance, and function by applying the sciences of biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and motor learning." In my doctoral training I took a couple of courses in kinesiology, not to specialize, but to have an extra way to understand my patients. Dr. Alfred Adler spoke about this early in his career, perhaps around 1912, as another way for counselors to understand the people who came to them for help. (Freud and Jung were silent on the subject.) -- Dr. Bob (Adlerian Psychologist)

- I dunno much about reading body language but i've heard people speak of it who supposedly know what they're talking about and they reckon its by NO MEANS a precise science. What i mean by this is that someone with their legs crossed can mean they are closed off and uncomfortable with the topic and it can also mean that they simply prefer to sit with legs crossed so as to be more comfortable. I will add that i think cops would be people who have learned to be real good at reading body language.
